Since 2006, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards(KATS) and the Korean Standards Association(KSA) has been organizing the International Standards Olympiad to facilitate an understanding of the standards among and to instill their importance in the next generation.
Students from middle and high school levels from all around the world take part in the International Standards Olympiad. Teams that pass the preliminary rounds move on in the main competition, where they are assigned with tasks designed to stimulate their knowledge and proficiency in the world of standardization. The tournament became international in 2014 as a trial run and was cemented as a formal international tournament in 2015.
The International Standards Olympiad tests not only the knowledge of standardization from a theoretical perspective, but also integrates creativity, scientific knowledge, and technology, creating a dynamic, exciting opportunity for the participants to explore the world of standardization.
